Alpine Beauty and Lakeside Tranquillity
Set at the south-western tip of Y-shaped Lake Como, the town of Como offers wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A funicular railway runs up to the village of Brunate from where you can see Switzerland on the opposite shore.
The peaceful location has long been a favourite with celebrities, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next door Broletto dates to the previous century, and even older are the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello, sitting on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style is the Casa del Fascio, built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighbouring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury lakefront hotels, town centre B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, which offers direct services to Milan.
Lake Como was wonderful. Though we had rain for the three days we stayed, it was still lovely, and will return again, and stay at the
B&B Al Molo, Sant’Agostino. The owner, Stefano, was just wonderful.

Como city itself can be visited in a day, after that the best is to take the bus and visit the cities around the lake like Mennagio - from there, take the ferry (7€/person total) and go visit Bellagio and Varenna.
You can visit villas; such as Carlotta (just before Mennagio) or Olmo (in Como).
In total, a trip between 2 and 3 days (max) is perfect.

Beautiful scenery.
Beautiful scenery. Recommend taking a trip on the fernicular for the views and a meal / drinks in the Locanda Milano hotel while up there.
Plenty of restaurants & bars to choose from in the city. The eateries with a view of the Cathederal are obviously more expensive than others further afield but not necessarily any better fare.
I was expecting it to be eye wateringly expensive but was pleasantly surprised that it was comparable to London / Brighton prices.
Advise picking up a street map from tourist info as the narrow streets can look very similar!

Stunning location, recommend you get up early to get the first boat to other towns on the lake. You have no queues, similarly with the funicular. We got an early car up to Brunate. Came down at 1pm and the queue to go up stretched onto the street.
Easy to get to from Milan (1 hr train)

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with this accommodation. A few minutes before our arrival we received a call from Cascina Mirandola that there were no more rooms available for us. They had selected another hotel for us. There was no explanation or apology for this situation. The other hotel was very far away so we asked for another suggestion. We were assured that we would pay the same price as contractually agreed in the booking. As it was already evening, we drove to the suggested accommodation and stayed there overnight. The next morning we had to pay a much higher price for this overnight stay. The owner phoned Cascina Mirandola to clarify how to proceed. Casicina Mirandola promised to transfer the difference to us. After very slow communication by phone and email, we are still waiting for our money and an apology. Our calls are no longer answered. We feel cheated and cannot recommend Cascina Mirandola under any circumstances.

I must say, after everything I have heard about the beautiful Como, I was left disappointed. Maybe my expectations were a little to high but I didn't like it there. It is a cute town but nothing special. Doesn't feel Italian, if that's what you're looking for. Also, is it quite pricey. I will not be coming back here.
The staff were so welcoming and lovely to absolutely everybody. Fluent in multiple languages and always willing to help out or simply chat. The lady who helped cater the breakfast buffet in the mornings was an absolute gem, I adored her. The location of the hotel was perfection, less than a 5 minute walk from Como San Giovanni train station and less than a 10 minute walk to the ferry port (to take you to other Lake Como beauties such as Belaggio, Varenna and Menaggio)!! Overall I had such a pleasant stay and will be back next I’m in Como :)
This is the best place to stay in Como. I almost booked two hotel rooms at Hotel Barchetta Excelsior but I am so much happier we stayed here. A group of 4 rented two rooms which were like top-tier hotel rooms -- Impeccable use of space, design, comfort, and cleanliness. The property is located in the very center of the city. On top of that, Alessandro is an amazing host who recommended many places for dinner. Congratulations to him on this beautiful place! We liked it so much that we decided to rent one extra night and stay in Como.
I loved everything about this place. Small charming family hotel, excellent location, very close to bus station, train station (Stop: Como Lago) and ferry. The best restaurants and cafes on the lake shore are just around the corner. The rooms were very cosy and clean, bathroom small but you really don’t need bigger one, very comfortable bed, air conditioning was good. The owner Isabella was very kind and helpful. There is a luggage room in case you have a late flight, you can leave the luggage there.
The location was fantastic and the facilities were first class. I had issues with a double booking charge that was rapidly settled by the Manager Daniela which was greatly appreciated because these types of issues are often frustrating to try to ressolve especially after leaving the property. All is good and Bravo to Daniela and all the staff at Palace Hotel!
I highly recommend the Palace for anyone wanting a magical Lake Como experience!
A wonderful position from which to explore the lake. The staff treat you like you're one of the 'family' from first welcome until you leave. Our room was beautiful, with spectacular views. The hotel is compact, so visitors need to organise trips and experiences to get the full value from their time in Como. Ours were utterly breathtaking - all perfectly arranged by Alberto - grazie mille, Alberto!
Location is great, I used to live in Como Lake till I was 18 so I always looked up at this hotel with awe. Staff at the desk was really nice, I have to admit. They helped me a lot when I realized I didn't book a parking space, they gave recommendations for dinner and let me keep my luggage a bit the next day until i retrieved my car from a nearby car park. Room was clean, bed comfortable.
Perfect location on lovely square just few minutes walk from lake . Every thing in walking distance. Lots of restaurants, bars and shops on doorstep . Beds were so comfortable, rooms cleaned every day . Didn’t include breakfast in stay so can’t comment. Staff all very helpful and late check out at 12 noon . Can’t recommend this hotel enough, will definitely stay again when visiting Como
The place is absolutely amazing, it did exceed my expectations. The location is great, very well located in the center of Como, Italy, there are lots of restaurants, cafes, and shops around. The lake is just a few minutes away walking from the place as well. I really highly recommend this place and I am sure I do come back someday.
amazing location right on lake Como allowing the most beautiful view, the room itself was spacious and clean providing a lovely stay. And to accompany the host was the most accommodating person I’ve met on our Italy trip going above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing but perfect, made it a very special experience.
We loved this old traditional hotel! The location is fantastic in the heart of the town. The room was comfortable and clean, yes dated but it’s Italy and it gave you the feel of being in Italy! Far too many places are getting the modern cold look now. For location alone it’s 10/10.
Amazing property with amazing views. Rooftop pool and terrace restaurant was very nice. Hotel common areas were very luxurious and cosy. We brought our dog and they were very accommodating with a dog bed and treats. A bit on the pricier end, but a truly fantastic stay on Lake Como.
Tge location is ideal. I booked this hotel specifically because it is right across the street from the Teatro Sociale and I went to a performance there. Additionally, it was convenient to walk around Como and go to the market. I felt very safe as a single woman traveller.
This was by far our favorite stay in Italy. Wonderful location in Como, lovely decor and apartment setup, clean, friendly hosts, and decent kitchen to cook in. The bed was comfortable, WIFI was great, loved the rain shower, and the bed was comfy. 10/10!
The hotel itself is nice with good views over the lake. The rooms are clean and bright and there is parking immediately outside. The breakfast was OK, but with room for improvement. Its in a good location if you are passing through the Como region.
This is my favorite hotel in Como, I've stayed once before and will stay again next time I visit Como.
The breakfast is exceptional. The location is tucked out of the way but still central and the staff are lovely.
Hotel and staff were wonderful, breakfast was excellent so much choice. Rooftop bar and pool were great and distance to Lake Como was about 15 minute easy walk. A great place to stay. ❤️🇮🇹
The staff was very attentive and the Hotel has a great setting overlooking Lake Como. We hired a Captain to take us on a tour of the lake and he was able to pick us up from the Hotel dock.
Location is near the train station Como and within walking distance to pier, market and restaurant.
No frill little hotel but quiet. Staff are very kind and helpful.
