Faro is the picturesque capital of the Algarve region, offering colourful streets and buildings, Moorish influence, and typical Portuguese charm. It is encompassed by the lagoon of Ria Formosa Natural Park, and offers wide beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and a vibrant nightlife.
Occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and once an important Roman harbour and Moorish culture capital, it was almost flattened by the 1755 earthquake. Happily, the historic centre survived and is today one of best preserved in Algarve. Choosing a hotel in Faro’s Old Town will allow you to have a more authentic Portuguese experience.
The long, sandy beach of Praia de Faro is 7 km from the city, and the beach on Barreta Island –also known as Deserta - is probably the most tranquil in the region. Hotels near the beach in Faro and the surrounding towns of Olhão, Tavira, Quinta do Lago, Quarteira and Vilamoura, are all excellent ways to enjoy sunny Portugal.
Faro International Airport offers connections throughout Europe, and the city also offers ferry, railway, and bus links. Whether you need a beach resort or a hotel near Faro Airport, check out the wide offer available on Booking.com!

We chose Faro as it has a short flight time a short transfer from the airport and good weather (we wanted a 3 night break) We weren't sure what to expect as Faro isn't really known as a holiday destination! It is awesome! Beaches, trips, architecture, restaurants, the Old Town, bars, great sunsets and storks! Oh and the rosè is lovely!
The bus from the airport #16) takes 20 mins, drops you at the terminal about a 10 mins walk from marina area (dragging cases). We liked
'O Coreta' on the marina, ate there 2 nights and had drinks there as well. Nice vibe, live music, fantastic paella!

Faro seems to be going through a transformation.
Faro seems to be going through a transformation. There were surprisingly alot of houses and some location close to the water which seem to be neglected and not well maintained.
If you are looking for a nightlife atmosphere then Faro is not really the place to stay.
I think Faro is a good place for arriving (Airport is not too big and getting in and out of the airport is easy) and maybe spending a day there before flying out agina.

A working, everyday town with some interesting buildings, modest tourist offering, friendly people and good transport facilities. Felt safe at night on every visit (even the ever-present drug sellers were polite!) Worth a nose if you're passing through.

Loved Faro for it’s warm and friendly people, great weather, fabulous food, fine shops and charming neighbouring towns easily accessed by train. We were particularly taken by Taveira which is a must visit. We would return to the Faro area again and again

Beautiful sleepy little historical fishing town.
Beautiful sleepy little historical fishing town. Excellent for a quiet few days in the warm sun, wandering around its quaint narrow streets, enjoying shops, cafes and restaurants. Great beaches all nearby. Also less than half an hours' bus ride to the largest shopping centre/outlet village in the south of Portugal (Mar Shopping Centre), so there's something for everyone.

It's a lived-in, working city and doesn't pretend to put tourists at the forefront. However, tourists are well-catered for and I've spent a few happy days wandering the town on several occasions. Just wear sturdy shoes and have a little torch handy as the pavements/kerbs are no fun!
Very up-to-date hotel;; smart, and modern. Room was clean and quiet, even though in a busy area.of town Front desk (Hugo) were polite and friendly. The rooftop restaurant was exceptional, wait staff Joana a lovely person.. we enjoyed the view over the harbour .. underground parking is helpful, in a busy area of the city.
We only stayed one night before catching our flight home at Faro airport. We left too early for breakfast, but were given a boxed breakfast to take with us; juice, sandwiches and an apple.
The apartment is right on the beach facing the ocean and the view is amazing. The location was just perfect.
It's extremely easy to access from the airport with the No 16 bus, dropping you off at the bridge of Praia de Faro, after that it's only a 5 mins walk to the apartment.
Catarina who manages the property is very contactable by what's app and is always at the end of the phone. She is amazing. Thanks Catarina for making our stay so perfect!
We had a late arrival and keys left in key box with codes given to us - really easy process. It was in a perfect area for us - we could walk wherever we wanted. close to the waterfront, bus station, shops and great restaurants. We had breakfast at the Cinderela restaurant (which was included) which was really good!! We love Faro and would definitely stay at Casa Portugal on our return - host was amazing!!
As an airport hotel, simply - perfect
Perfect location. Very clean, specious, decorated in modern, simple design. Without anything excessive or intrusive. Beds are super comfortable and we were surprised how peaceful this neighborhood is since Faro airport is quite busy. Everything was were it should be, how airport hotel supposed to be designed.and organized.
Hotel has my absolute recommendations.
This hotel is our favorite stay so far in Portugal. Clean, plenty of room, comfortable beds, comfortable temperature, helpful and friendly staff, and nice kitchenette. Let us check in a bit early as the room was prepared. Great location for getting off the train and walking around Faro. Enjoyed an evening walk at the harbor listening to some great street music and enjoying the sunset.
Location, and the staff especially.
Plus the food /breakfast was lovely ----lots of choice..
However, the tea /coffee machines were at a minimum. Could do with installing a few more machines cos it's frustrating to have to queqe so long--whilst your breakfast is getting cold.
However, I would not hesitate to return to this fabulous hotel again, if I was returning to Portugal.
Valentina is a kind host and gave me a warm welcome into her B&B. The room is comfortable and the accomodation location is very close to the Faro bus and train stations and the restaurants. She also gave very good information of the covid situation in Portugal and made me feel comfortable. She responds very quickly to messages which I also greatly appreciate!!
The receptionist that I met was just wonderful! Inês was just so invested in making my trip to Faro as enjoyable as possible! She was so super helpful and as my first point of contact in Portugal, she really set the tone. Staff like Inês are hard to find, she's one in a million! Thank you for setting the tone for a beautiful 3 weeks in Portugal! 🙏❤️🥰
The hotel staff were excellent in all respects, from the very friendly, helpful, efficient team on reception, the shuttle bus drivers, breakfast and bar staff and the cleaners. Although the hotel is located about halfway between the airport/beach and central Faro, the daily shuttle bus and other transport links made the location work.
Helpful and friendly hosts who supplied every need. Spacious and well cared for apartments tastefully converted giving a sense of openness and space. Ideally located in the old centre of Faro with all amenities nearby. Faro itself with its international airport a perfect introduction to a trip around Portugal.
Rooms We booked this hotel because it has a 4 star rating after being disappointed in the original booking in Faro Portugal. It is lovely with great, helpful and kind Staff. We were able to get some supper in the snack bar. Also, because it is in a newer part of Faro it had plenty of free parking
We like everything. Hotel was nice, clean.Staff wery friendly and helpful. Breakfast fantastic, its from 4am to 12 am..it was perfect as last day we have to leave early and we got breakfast at 6am. Half hour walk from airport and less than half hour walk to Faro old town, teains station
The Ria Formosa Guest House is an oasis of tranquility and hospitality in Faro, Portugal. The hotel's modern and spacious rooms, delicious breakfast, convenient parking, and relaxing sauna and bar make it the perfect place to stay.
perfect little beach. next to the airport, ~2 km. there is a bus from the airport to the island ~ walking way ca. 500 meter to the hostel and island. Connections by bus also to Faro.
Good idea for acclimate the first days
The location was good for getting to the airport and a taxi ride to Faro Beach but this hotel didn’t seem didn’t for more than a night or two. Room was clean, bed comfortable and staff helpful and friendly.
