Hotel in Shirahama Onsen, Shirahama
Located in Shirahama, 1.2 miles from Shirarahama Beach, 白浜・温泉リゾート海岳 provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar. The breakfast portion was very generous, and I ate my fill. There was a variety of dishes, and the tamagoyaki seemed to be freshly made—it was hot. In the morning, having a bowl of miso soup with rice along with various side dishes made my stomach very comfortable. The evening kaiseki meal is also lavish, with very fresh sashimi. I recommend the beef. The hotel also recommends other restaurants and scenic routes.
Hotel in Katsuragi
Located in Katsuragi, 17 miles from Tama Museum, Sanso Amanosato provides accommodations with free bikes, free private parking, a garden and a bar. This was an exceptional property in every way. Though the rooms are European style, the singular cabins, the passage ways, the main building, all have a very Japanese architectural feel. This is located about 20km from Koyasan, and sits among rice paddies just a bike ride from a local shrine. It gives you the chance to glide along on deserted roads and happen upon a major pilgramage shrine along the Kumano Kodo. The Kaiseki meal was superb, with about 10 courses of sublime cooking and service of the highest order. The staff may have been a little nervous as we don't speak Japanese, but they fared well. The presentation was, as is the Japanese way, giving a nod to the autumn season with fall flowers and leaves presenting the food as art. The Onsen were private so that couples can enjoy with eachother, three possibilities were available, with small gardens outside each. Our suite also had a huge round tub to enjoy as well. The bathroom was of exceptional design. We had a hedge of blooming flowers outside the porch doors where beautiful and unusual butterflies were feeding.

Hotel in Kushimoto
Located within a 4-minute walk of Hashigui Beach and 5.2 miles of Shionomisaki Shrine, Fairfield by Marriott Wakayama Kushimoto has rooms in Kushimoto. Nicest room I’ve ever stayed in. Also the hotel is located right across from the Hashigui rocks which I took tons of photos of. The build of the structure is also super strong, and even though we were on the coast during a hurricane, I couldn’t even hear the wind and rain outside and felt very safe. I also liked the kitchen and mini-store? that was available. The BEST part of this stay, was the staff. The staff were amazing and truly kind people. During the crises that my friend and I were stuck in, a staff member helped us greatly when all the transportation lines were shut down. If you are interested in going to this area, I couldn’t recommend this place more.

Very convenient location right next to JR Wakayama station. Can catch city bus and taxi right outside of hotel. Clean room and comfortable bed. Smaller than American chain hotel rooms but comparable to a veranda cruise ship cabin without the veranda. Electric kettle, bottled water and tea provided. Hotel has system for room cleaning in which you choose how often cleaning is done. Located next to department store with food, beverage and grocery options. Also many delicious local restaurants are within walking distance.
Wakayama
The hostel is very warm and comfortable and makes you really feel like home. I arrived in Wakayama earlier and Hiroko-san allowed me to check in early. She’s very kind and accommodating and she suggested good local eats around. The hostel is very clean and organized and space is fully utilized. Notwithstanding, my room is very spacious. You will not have problem with shared amenities. I will definitely stay here again.
Tanabe
The location is perfect; it is only a 5 minute walk to the Kii Tanabe station where you would have access to all kinds of transportation. The guesthouse is actually a traditional Japanese residence which has a very authentic feel. The host is kind and multilingual. It is an excellent base to explore the southern part of Wakayama Prefecture.
Wakayama
Awesome hostel. Had possibly the best coffe I've had in Japan at the bar, as well as some crazy good basque burnt cheese cake. The bar is beatiful and the hostel itself is very nice as well. Rooms are super big. Location is very convenient, not far from the train station and close to Wakayama Castle and a lot of great restaurants.
Near the hotel, although a word of advice would be to go out from the central gate of Wakayama Station, turn right and take the elevator down to rhetorical basement, go through the underpass and take the lift up on the east side to get to the hotel. Serves a good breakfast. Rooms were big and beds were very comfortable!
Tanabe
Lovely to stay and enjoy the delicious food and tranquility. I only wish we had stayed longer. Very interesting to hear Giovanni's story of developing the accommodation and preserving Japanese culture in Wakayama. Comfortable bed and space. We were nice and warm despite the freezing temperatures outside!
Lovely room, comfortable bed, bath and room had great view over marina. Friendly staff. Easy to get to by public transport. Good place to relax, an onsen nearby. However a bit far for seeing Wakayama castle etc. I think we were the only International travellers here.
Comfortable, spacious and clean room and hotel overall, just a few minutes' walk from Wakayama station. Staff was friendly and helpful. I spent only one night here with a late-ish arrival and early check-out but enjoyed my short stay very much.
Wakayama
The location was great and the room and services were fantastic. The location was great and wakayamas transportation system makes it very easy to get around by bus. The staff was upset helpful and the common room was very nice as well
Clean and very spacious room at a very good price. Staff is very friendly and helpful, and quite fluent in English compared to other places. Located right at Wakayamashi station, supermarket and restaurants are just downstairs.
This apartment was amazing value for money! I only stayed a couple days, but it would be a great place to use as a base for exploring Wakayama. The apartment was clean and nicely decorated, and the kitchen was well equipped.
Overall, a fantastic place to stay for cheap, in an excellent location in Wakayama City. Great views from the 9th floor breakfast buffet, fairly comfortable rooms, and helpful staff made Smile Hotel a great fit for us.
Very fresh and new-feeling, excellent breakfast with a nice view of Wakayama Castle. Room typical of Japan, fine for me alone, and comfortable. Nice deep bathtub. Very friendly staff.
Very big and clean rooms! Near JR Wakayama station, so easy to reach. If you come by car, free parking spaces are available. Rooms had all we needed.
Great ametities, including free breakfast and drinks. The location was also good, walkable distance from the Wakayama station.
Stunning property! Simply perfect temple stay
Dinner and Breakfast buffet is very nice. Very nice staff and professional service.
The hotel was quite massive and dated, and truthfully, i was initially sceptical as I disliked huge hotels that are always frequented by tour groups, but this hotel proved me wrong. Despite the number of people we saw every day checking in, there was more than enough space for everyone, on top of that I actually found that despite the hotels age, all the deco and everything else added to the overall charm of the place which I ended up throughly enjoying. They even had a Lawons on site for convenience! Rooms were spacious, clean, and functional with daily amenities like toothbrushes and shavers, etc. We stayed in the main building and had views out to to the bay, which was quite amazing. The highlight was their various onsens, which were phenomenal, especially the cave ones where you can hear the sound of waves crashing. Indoor ones were great as well with ample space for everyone. Go late or before breakfast, and you'll have the indoor ones all to yourself, which i did on multiple occasions and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Oh, don't forget to try their space walker (escalator) that takes you up to the highest building, the whole ride takes you 5mins45sec and I think it's supposedly the longest or highest in Japan?
The host Jian was amazing and the food cooked by his wife and daughter was exceptional, both for the dinner and in the next day's bento boxes for our day walking the Kumano Kodo
